Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt announced the plan to expand drone security research, stating that the "arms race of drone technology requires its own research units to keep pace." The new facility, set to open on August 18 at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) test site in Cochstedt, Saxony-Anhalt, will be a unique national institution. It aims to foster innovation in drone security through real-world laboratory research, development, and testing, bridging scientific excellence with the needs of security agencies.

Together with the DLR, we are establishing a nationally unique facility with the new technology center, where innovative technologies for drone security will be researched, developed, and tested in real-world laboratories.

Dobrindt characterized the incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport as a "hybrid" attack by "foreign powers" seeking to destabilize Germany. He warned that espionage, sabotage, cyberattacks, and covert operations are a constant reality, making it imperative for Germany to adapt. "We are not at war, but we are a daily target of hybrid warfare," Dobrindt stated, underscoring the strategic goal of foreign adversaries to undermine German society through fear and destabilization.
