Ghana's Energy Ministry Pledges Commitment to Sustainable Energy System

Ghana is actively pursuing the development of a sustainable energy system to bolster its economy, according to Sulemana Abubakari, Director of Power at the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition. He emphasized the government's dedication to ensuring reliable power supply, which is crucial for the growth of various economic sectors.

Abubakari stated that innovative policies are key to achieving energy security, minimizing losses, and improving the overall performance of the nation's power infrastructure. This includes strengthening both energy transmission and system reliability. The ministry's focus extends to enhancing efficiency and securing financing within the power sector to meet the increasing demand for consistent and sustainable electricity.

The government's vision encompasses an energy sector that actively supports critical industries such as manufacturing, mining, and agriculture, alongside digitalization and enterprise development. The goal is to secure energy for current economic needs while simultaneously building a resilient system for the future. This involves expanding renewable energy sources, maintaining grid stability, and attracting vital energy investments.

Furthermore, Abubakari highlighted that global shifts in energy transition, climate commitments, and investor expectations are reshaping energy production, financing, and consumption. He stressed the importance of training professionals capable of managing the complexities of the energy sector, from planning and regulation to financing energy assets like solar farms and power plants. Accra Metropolitan University's new Master of Science in Energy Management and Policy program was launched to address this need, combining policy, innovation, management, and sustainability to equip graduates for Ghana's energy future.
