Ghuran Leads Trinidad and Tobago Charge at Pan American Junior Squash Championships

Gia Ghuran’s rise on the international junior squash circuit continued in Colombia, where she reached the Under-13 final at the 2026 Pan American Junior Open Squash Championships and claimed silver.

The Trinidad and Tobago Under-13 and Under-15 national champion improved on the bronze medal she won at last year’s championships. Seeded third, Ghuran opened with a 3-1 victory over Colombia’s Veronica Martinez, then defeated Chile’s Lucia Navarro and Ecuador’s Amanda Merino 3-0 to book her place in the final.

She remained competitive against Guatemala’s top seed, Alisson Rubio, but lost 4-11, 6-11, 10-12. Ghuran nevertheless finished as the tournament’s highest-placed Caribbean player, ahead of competitors from Guyana, the Cayman Islands and the British Virgin Islands.

The medal added to an encouraging summer. Ghuran had placed fourth at the Junior Caribbean Squash Championships in the British Virgin Islands before reaching another international podium in Colombia.

Trinidad and Tobago’s junior contingent also included Under-11 champion Evan Ghuran, Jess D’Juran and national Under-17 and Under-19 champion Ross D’Juran. Evan competed in Under-11, Jess in Under-13 and Ross in Under-17. All three produced competitive performances but finished outside the medal positions against strong South American opposition. Evan received individual recognition through the PanAm Squash Fair Play Award, honoring his sportsmanship, integrity and conduct on and off the court. The contingent will next prepare for the Canadian Junior Open in Niagara, Ontario, in December.
