Gigi Becali Wanted Dan Petrescu at FCSB as Technical Director, Not Coach

Gigi Becali, the owner of Romanian football club FCSB, has disclosed that he considered bringing Dan Petrescu to the team approximately two months prior, though not in the capacity of head coach. The idea emerged from a discussion with Mihai Stoica, the club's general manager, before Marius Baciu was appointed to the technical bench.

Becali explained that while the initial proposal from Stoica was for Petrescu to become the head coach, this option was rejected. Instead, Becali expressed his willingness to offer the former CFR Cluj manager the position of technical director. He values Petrescu not only for his extensive experience in football but also for his personal qualities, believing he could make a significant contribution to the club's sporting structure without the pressures of being the main coach.

"I like him, he's too calm a person!" Becali stated, emphasizing his positive regard for Petrescu. He elaborated on his conversation with Stoica: "Meme Stoica wanted to bring him. He said, let's work with him. Let him sit in the stands, give them instructions. He would sit, tell me and at halftime: 'Hey Gigi, this needs to be done, that needs to be done.' I would want Dan Petrescu like this (technical director), but not as a coach. I told Meme two months ago and accepted it."

Becali reiterated his long-standing positive impression of Petrescu, stating, "I told Meme two months ago, 'Yes, with Dan Petrescu, anytime, let him come to us!'" Dan Petrescu is currently a free agent after parting ways with CFR Cluj due to health issues. Despite this, his name has remained on FCSB's list of potential candidates for a significant role within the club.
