Gilda Lozoya seeks protection over 'information leak'; given five days to clarify claim

Gilda Susana Lozoya Austin, sister of former Pemex director Emilio Lozoya, has sought legal protection through an "amparo" (writ of protection) concerning the alleged "filtration of information." Lozoya, who recently avoided pre-trial detention in the Agronitrogenados corruption case, is pursuing this legal avenue with her lawyer, Alejandro Rojas Pruneda.

The request was filed with the Eighth District Court in Penal Matters in Mexico City. However, Judge Rubén Darío Noguera Gregoire has given Lozoya five days to clarify the specific acts or omissions she wishes to challenge through the amparo. The court warned that if she fails to provide clarification, her amparo lawsuit will be considered not filed.

Lozoya was detained in early July at Mexico City's International Airport upon her return from Europe. The Attorney General's Office (FGR) subsequently released photographs and a video of her arrest on its official platforms. This dissemination of information reportedly angered Lozoya's legal team.

During Gilda Susana's arraignment hearing at the Reclusorio Norte Justice Center, her lawyer complained about human rights violations, specifically the leak of images and video footage to the media. The presiding judge, Nora Ileana García Peralta, subsequently ordered the FGR to open an investigation into the information leak concerning the arrest of Emilio Lozoya Austin's sister.

It is recalled that Gilda Susana Lozoya Austin was linked to a criminal proceeding for money laundering in the Agronitrogenados case, in which her brother is also accused. She is currently out on provisional release.
