Gimpo FC director's resignation rejected amid embezzlement probe

The resignation of Gimpo FC representative director Hong Gyeong-ho has been rejected by the city of Gimpo, as the K League 2 club faces an investigation into an employee accused of embezzling more than 8.2 billion won (approximately $6 million USD).

City officials stated that Hong's resignation was not approved because the investigation into the alleged embezzlement is still ongoing. The mayor's office indicated that a thorough review of the facts and involved parties is necessary before any decision can be made regarding leadership changes. The initial embezzlement amount was reported as over 5.8 billion won, but a special audit uncovered further irregularities.

Reports suggest the employee used the stolen funds to purchase property in Japan and three foreign cars. Both the police and a special audit by Gimpo City are simultaneously investigating the case. Hong had offered to resign taking responsibility for the incident, which was officially announced on the club's website and social media.
