Glasgow Hands Over Commonwealth Games Flag to India for 2030 Ahmedabad Edition

Glasgow has officially passed the baton for the Commonwealth Games to India, the host nation for the 2030 centenary edition in Ahmedabad. The handover occurred during a vibrant closing ceremony, marking the end of the 2026 Games. India becomes only the second nation, after Australia, to host the multi-sport event multiple times, having previously hosted in New Delhi in 2010. Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra, IOA president PT Usha, and Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi accepted the flag and baton on India's behalf. The ceremony celebrated the cultural heritage of both Scotland and India, featuring a unique Indo-Scottish collaboration of musicians and dancers. India achieved a notable success in the Glasgow Games, securing fourth place in the medals table with 39 medals, including 13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze. Despite a smaller team of 122 athletes compared to 210 in 2022, India maintained its fourth-place standing and demonstrated an improved medal conversion rate, with 38 athletes winning medals. The focus now shifts to Ahmedabad as it prepares to host the landmark 2030 Commonwealth Games.
