Justin Greaves scripts history with five consecutive wicket maidens in Test debut

In a remarkable display of bowling prowess, West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves etched his name in the history books during the first Test against Pakistan in Trinidad. Greaves became the first bowler in Test cricket, since comprehensive records became available, to achieve five consecutive wicket maidens.

This historic spell occurred on the third day of the ICC World Test Championship match. After Pakistan reached a strong position at 244/3, with Shan Masood scoring a century, Greaves triggered a dramatic collapse. He dismissed Masood and then proceeded to take three more wickets in successive overs without conceding a run, leaving Pakistan struggling at 267/8 by lunch. This remarkable sequence marked Greaves' maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

Greaves surpassed the previous record of four successive wicket maidens, held by former England fast bowler Stuart Broad since 2016. Reflecting on his performance, Greaves stated he kept his approach simple, following the guidance of West Indies captain Roston Chase. "When I came on captain Roston Chase just said 'continue to be disciplined in what you are doing' and to see if I can get some wickets for the team," Greaves was quoted as saying by the ICC.

Following the interval, Greaves continued his impressive form, taking another wicket in his opening over to complete the five consecutive wicket maidens. Pakistan was eventually bowled out for 282 in response to the West Indies' first-innings total of 311. However, Pakistan fought back late in the day, reducing the West Indies to 126/7 and establishing an overall lead of 155 runs heading into the fourth day.
