Glass Cracks on Roof of Palilula Market in Belgrade Due to Heat

Glass on a roof window at the Palilula market in Belgrade cracked due to the extreme heat, prompting temporary relocation of some vendors and the installation of protective fencing. The market's management has assured the public that the facility remains safe to use.

According to Jelena Nikolić from JKP "Beogradske pijace" (Belgrade Markets Public Utility Company), new glass panes have been ordered, but their fabrication will take some time. Protective barriers have been erected near the entrance to the market at the intersection of Ilije Grašanina and Dobre Mitrovića streets. Vendors whose stalls were located directly beneath the cracked window have been temporarily moved to different stands.

The Palilula market underwent reconstruction between 2017 and 2019. The incident highlights the impact of high summer temperatures on infrastructure, even in recently renovated structures. While the situation is being addressed, the temporary measures ensure the continued operation of the market.
