Global Competitive Urban Planning Initiative launched in Benghazi

The Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund has launched the Global Competitive Urban Planning Initiative for Greater Benghazi, opening work on a master plan and future vision for the city.

Fund Director General Belgasem Haftar inaugurated the initiative in Benghazi in the presence of representatives from national and international companies, institutions and consulting offices. Engineers, experts and specialists also attended, along with the commercial attaché at the Italian Embassy in Libya.

The initiative aims to develop an integrated plan for urban expansion and infrastructure. It will draw on international expertise and standards in urban planning, smart cities and sustainability.

The launch included discussion sessions, presentations of proposed plans for Greater Benghazi and reviews of international urban-planning experiences. The fund said the effort reflects its focus on long-term planning that can keep pace with the city’s urban and economic growth and establish a foundation for its development.
