Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin book spot in Round of 16 at World Championships

Malaysian men's doubles pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani have secured a spot in the top 16 at the World Badminton Championships in New Delhi, India. They advanced after defeating Scotland's Christopher and Matthew Grimley in the second round.

The world number six pair received a bye in the first round. They overcame the twin brothers, ranked 40th globally, with a score of 21-11, 15-21, 21-16 in 52 minutes at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium. This victory marks their second win against the Grimley brothers, having previously defeated them at the Thailand Open in May.

In the next round, Sze Fei-Izzuddin will face Taiwan's Chiu Hsiang Chieh and Wang Chi Lin, who are ranked 14th in the world. The Malaysian pair has a 1-1 head-to-head record against the Taiwanese duo, but they lost their most recent encounter at the German Open in February.

Sze Fei-Izzuddin are competing in the World Championships with the ambition of becoming world champions, aiming to follow in the footsteps of their fellow Malaysians Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, who achieved this title in 2022.
