Gold miner expands healthcare support for 2,700 residents

More than 2,700 residents in Imogbara, Odo-Ijesha, and Iperindo received free medical services during the fourth Annual Community Medical Outreach hosted by Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL), an exploration and gold mining company. The two-day event, held on August 7 and 8, 2026, offered medical consultations, laboratory tests, specialist care, and health education.

This year's outreach also marked the expansion of SegunCare, SROL's ongoing treatment and support program for residents with chronic diseases. The program now includes more comprehensive mental health support, aiming to address the holistic well-being of community members. During the event, 2,762 medical consultations were conducted, 81 individuals were scheduled for surgeries, and 1,860 laboratory investigations were performed.

Additionally, 563 eye examinations were carried out, leading to 21 residents being scheduled for eye surgeries, and 174 free reading glasses were distributed. Screenings for conditions like hypertension, diabetes, HIV, Hepatitis B and C, and tuberculosis were also conducted. Seven chronic mental health issues were identified, with rehabilitation and counseling provided.

Building on its 2025 launch, SegunCare has enrolled an additional 50 residents for chronic illness management, bringing the total to over 329 beneficiaries. The program provides ongoing care beyond the annual outreach, including monthly medication, routine monitoring, and long-term disease management. The expanded SegunCare will offer counseling for emotional effects of diagnoses, rehabilitation for substance use, grassroots education, and support groups to combat social isolation.
