Gombe Police prosecute 167 traffic offenders

The Gombe State Police Command has taken decisive action against traffic offenders, prosecuting 167 motorists and other road users as part of its "Operation Velvet" initiative in the Gombe metropolis. The intensive enforcement campaign, which began early on Monday, August 24, 2026, was personally overseen by the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Chuso.

The operation specifically targeted the enforcement of traffic laws and regulations. According to DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the Police Public Relations Officer, the exercise concluded on Thursday, August 27, 2026. During this period, the arrested offenders were brought before three designated mobile courts.

These mobile courts were strategically established at Rainbow Roundabout, Gombe Emir’s Palace, and Liji Roundabout to ensure the swift prosecution of those apprehended for traffic violations. This streamlined process aims to address non-compliance with traffic laws efficiently.

Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Chuso, reiterated the command's unwavering commitment to upholding traffic laws and fostering public order and safety throughout the state. He urged all road users, including motorists, tricycle, and motorcycle operators, to strictly adhere to traffic regulations and ensure their vehicles are properly documented.

CP Chuso warned that the enforcement operations would be sustained and encouraged public cooperation with security and enforcement officers. The command also advised residents to report any suspicious or unlawful activities through the appropriate channels, reinforcing a community-wide approach to maintaining safety and order on the roads.
