Gombe State IRS generates N20.7 billion in six months

Gombe State's Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has reported a strong financial performance, generating over N20.7 billion in revenue during the first half of 2026. The agency is targeting a total of N39 billion by year-end, signaling ambitious growth and improved fiscal management.

Our target is around N39bn for the year. So as of today, we’ve done over, I think, N20.7bn.

Aisha Adamu, Executive Chairman of the Gombe State IRS, shared these figures, attributing the year-on-year revenue growth to enhanced tax administration, comprehensive staff training, and effective collaboration with stakeholders. She highlighted that the current revenue collection has already surpassed the previous year's performance, underscoring the agency's commitment to its mandate.

Beyond revenue collection, the agency has prioritized human capital development, exposing its personnel to domestic and international best practices through various training programs. Furthermore, the IRS has strengthened collaborations with key institutions, including the Gombe State Government, security agencies, and the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit, to bolster intelligence gathering and revenue collection efforts.

We have continued to grow our revenue year on year from the year we started here. So that is one of our major achievements. We are doing better than the previous year, 2025.

In a notable achievement, the agency also reported recovering more than four stolen vehicles, including motorcycles and cars, that were brought into Gombe State for registration. These vehicles had been stolen from other parts of the country, showcasing the agency's role in broader security and recovery efforts.

Another of our major achievements will be in the area of recovery of stolen vehicles, where we’ve been able to recover over four vehicles so far, including those stolen from places like Port Harcourt and Kaduna.
