Gorica backs Mario Carević after six matches as coach’s future comes under scrutiny

HNK Gorica has decided not to change coaches after a disastrous start to the season left the club bottom of the SuperSport HNL with only one point from six matches.

The club said it had received numerous questions from media, managers and others in football about Mario Carević’s position. Gorica responded by making clear that Carević and his staff still had the backing of the leadership.

HNK Gorica’s management hereby wishes to make clear that it firmly stands behind Mario Carević and his coaching staff and believes in their work, quality and ability to lead the team out of its current results crisis.

The club acknowledged that the results were nowhere near what it had hoped for after the opening six games. But its management said the points total could not be the only measure of the coaching staff’s work. It cited their daily work, their relationship with the team and the process that began when Carević arrived.

We are aware of the situation we are in, and no one at the club is satisfied with one point after six matches. However, we want to be completely clear: Mario Carević has our full confidence.

President Ilija Karamatić also said there were currently no discussions about a change on the bench. He acknowledged the dissatisfaction with one point from six matches but argued that it was too early to draw conclusions or act under pressure. Gorica said it now wanted to stabilize the team, preserve calm in the dressing room and give Carević the opportunity to continue.

The coach and his players must now begin repaying that confidence with results on the pitch.
