Government Again Offers Transportation Fare Discounts for 2026 Holiday Period

The Indonesian government is reintroducing discounted transportation fares for the upcoming 2026 school holidays and the year-end festive season, encompassing Christmas 2026 and New Year 2027. This policy, aligned with President Prabowo Subianto's directive, aims to support public purchasing power and manage price levels.

Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the policy reflects the government's commitment to providing safe, secure, and comfortable transportation services that remain accessible to the public during periods of increased mobility. He expressed hope that the discounts would alleviate travel expenses for citizens and encourage greater movement of people and economic activity throughout the holidays.

This is a form of government commitment in providing transportation services that are safe, secure, and comfortable, which can also be accessed by the public during periods of increased mobility.

"We hope this incentive can be optimally utilized by the public, while also providing a positive impact on the transportation sector, tourism, and the national economy," Dudy said. The provision of these discounts is formalized through a Joint Decree involving the Minister of Transportation, the Minister of Finance, and the Head of the State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Regulatory Agency.

This decree specifically assigns transportation sector State-Owned Enterprises the task of providing fare discounts as an economic stimulus during the designated holiday periods. The initiative underscores the government's effort to facilitate public travel at more affordable rates.
