Government Assures Adequate Medicine Supply in Malaysia

The Malaysian government has issued a firm assurance regarding the nation's medicine supply, stating that it is currently sufficient to meet demand.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim chaired a National Economic Action Council (MTEN) meeting where key presentations were heard from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities. During the meeting, the government reiterated its commitment to ensuring that no parties exploit the situation by arbitrarily increasing medicine prices, which would disproportionately affect vulnerable groups like patients and the elderly.

Data from May 8 indicates a generally stable supply of medicines across the country. Approximately 72 percent of medicine supplies were recorded at a low-risk level. A further 11.3 percent were categorized as moderate risk, while only 16.8 percent were deemed high-risk, necessitating ongoing monitoring and mitigation strategies.

This proactive stance aims to maintain the affordability and accessibility of essential medications for all Malaysians, preventing undue financial strain on individuals and ensuring the healthcare system's stability.
