Government expresses moral support for Medinaceli, calling him 'an integral man'

Bolivia's government has publicly declared its moral support for former hydrocarbons minister Mauricio Medinaceli, who is currently detained as part of an investigation into alleged irregularities in the import of "dirty" or "unstable" gasoline. Presidential spokesperson José Luis Gálvez affirmed the government's high regard for Medinaceli's service and integrity.

"We want to explicitly state that we highly value Mr. Mauricio Medinaceli in the service he has provided. He is a top-level professional committed to the country in every way. Furthermore, we emphasize that he is an integral man with extensive international experience," Gálvez said during a press conference. The spokesperson expressed confidence that the justice system would act according to the law without overstepping its bounds.

Medinaceli was apprehended on Tuesday and spent his first night in police cells belonging to the Special Force to Fight Crime (Felcc) in La Paz. The Prosecutor's Office was reportedly preparing the formal charges against him, which would then lead to a hearing on precautionary measures. Authorities confirmed that Medinaceli's health condition is stable.

The former minister is being investigated for the alleged crimes of dereliction of duty and uneconomical conduct, according to prosecutor David Torres. The government's strong backing of Medinaceli underscores their belief in his character while maintaining respect for the independence of the judiciary.
