Government Moves to Urgently Address Engineering Staff Shortage at Pims

The federal government has decided to urgently tackle shortages of engineering and technical staff at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences after a fire at the facility killed 14 infants.

Health Minister Mustafa Kamal chaired a meeting on Monday with senior officials from the health ministry, the Pims administration, the Capital Development Authority and other relevant departments. The meeting focused on improving efficiency in the health system and addressing technical problems at the hospital.

Officials briefed the minister on the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system at Pims’ Mother and Child Health Centre. The system was affected by the recent fire, while work to repair it had been disrupted, according to CDA officials.

The meeting followed the federal government’s announcement of steps to address the centre’s technical issues and hold those responsible for the fire accountable.
