Government Unveils New Programme to Address Labour Market Data Gaps

Uganda's Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development has introduced a new initiative to tackle long-standing deficiencies in the nation's labor market data. The government acknowledges that inadequate reporting systems and scattered records have consistently undermined efforts in effective employment planning and policy formulation.

The new program is designed to improve the collection, analysis, and dissemination of labor market information. By strengthening these systems, the ministry aims to provide policymakers with more accurate and comprehensive data to guide decisions on employment, skills development, and economic growth.

Officials have warned that the current fragmented data landscape poses a significant challenge. Without reliable statistics, it becomes difficult to accurately assess labor market trends, identify skill shortages, and design targeted interventions to boost employment and productivity across Uganda.
