Governor Sani gives financial lifeline to ex-inmates

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has extended a financial lifeline to 97 former inmates, offering them N100,000 each to aid their transition back into society. The governor granted clemency to these individuals on June 12, commemorating Democracy Day, fulfilling a promise to support their reintegration.

Dalhat Ibrahim, the Assistant Controller of the Kaduna Medium Security Custodial Centre, commended the governor's initiative, stating that the financial assistance is instrumental in achieving the reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of ex-inmates. "By paying the fine of the inmates and giving them financial assistance, this will encourage them to go and do what they are supposed to do. They are now set to be reintegrated into the society," Ibrahim explained. He advised the freed prisoners to utilize the funds as working capital to start businesses or rebuild their lives.

Mohammed Suleiman, Senior Special Assistant to the governor on protocol, led government officials to the Custodial Centre to fulfill the governor's promise. He reiterated Governor Sani's counsel to the former inmates, urging them to maintain good behavior and avoid any delinquent or criminal activities that could lead to re-imprisonment.

Among the recipients, Chuks Solomon from Ebonyi State expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity to leave prison and for the financial support. "We thank him for giving us the money because some of us will use it as capital to start a business. We pray that God will continue to bless him," Solomon said. Another former inmate, Abubakar Umar, speaking in Hausa, described the release facilitated by the governor as a joyous occasion, praying for blessings upon Governor Sani, Kaduna State, and the nation.
