Gowa Regent Responds as Council Proposes Impeachment Over Investigation Findings

The Gowa Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) in South Sulawesi has officially proposed the impeachment of Regent Sitti Husniah Talenrang. The decision stems from the findings of a special committee, the Pansus Hak Angket, which has concluded its investigation into alleged misconduct.

The proposal was formally presented during a plenary session on Wednesday, where the DPRD announced its stance on the committee's findings. Regent Talenrang was present at the session and responded to the council's decision. She emphasized her commitment to upholding the law and respecting the mandate given by the people of Gowa, stating that her presence was not an attempt to evade scrutiny but a demonstration of her respect for the legislative body and legal processes.

Talenrang acknowledged that criticism is a natural part of democracy and healthy governance. She asserted that she does not place herself above criticism, oversight, or the law, viewing her position as a trust rather than a personal right. The Regent also touched upon the issue of scholarship program suspensions, calling for an evaluation based on legality and the mechanisms available for policy review.

Adding a layer of tension, Talenrang indicated that certain facts, which she believed were not fully presented to the special committee, were crucial to understanding the situation. As she began to speak, some DPRD members interrupted, particularly when she brought forward Fenny, the pregnant wife of a key witness, Wahyu, into the session. This move by the Regent appeared to create further friction within the DPRD.
