“Grand prize, grand prize!”: Metro marks 57th anniversary with lottery tickets offering 43 million pesos in prizes

“Grand prize, grand prize!” The National Lottery is marking the Mexico City Metro's 57th anniversary with more than two million commemorative tickets and a total prize fund of 43 million pesos.

The tickets celebrate the Sistema de Transporte Colectivo, the mass rail network serving Mexico City and its metropolitan area. The issue includes 2.4 million tickets, with a top prize of 11 million pesos in one series. They will be sold through lottery vendors across the country, and the draw is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 27.

The commemorative ticket was presented to Metro employees during celebrations for Metro Workers' Day. Metro Director General Adrián Rubalcava and Fernando Espino, president of the National Union of STC Metro Workers, attended the event.

Rubalcava thanked the National Lottery for issuing the anniversary ticket, calling it an important addition to the Metro's memorabilia. He said the system is entering a new stage focused on recovering daily ridership, as passengers choose it for the speed of its journeys.

He also pointed to future challenges, including the planned modernization of Line 3. He said the experience of technical staff would be valuable for innovations in track systems and automatic train operation, as well as for adding new trains. Espino said the Metro's 57-year history reflects the effort and commitment of generations of workers serving millions of people. Rubalcava closed by saying, “At the Metro, more than a team, we are the Metro family.”
