Grape harvest declarations begin; deadline December 15

Producers in Greece have commenced the submission of harvest declarations for their wine grapes for the current viticultural season. The deadline for completing this process is December 15, providing a window for farmers to report their expected yields.

The declarations are to be submitted electronically via the "Grape Harvest Declaration" service, which is accessible on the website of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food. This digital platform aims to streamline the reporting process for all involved.

It is emphasized that all vineyard plots within each agricultural holding are subject to this declaration requirement. This includes grape growers who did not produce any grapes, whether because their vines are still young or their crops were completely destroyed by extreme weather events or other causes. The aim is to maintain a comprehensive record of all viticultural activities.

An exception is made for producers whose total area of wine grape varieties does not exceed one stremma (approximately 0.1 hectares or 0.25 acres), provided that the entire harvest is intended exclusively for family consumption and will not be sold on the market. However, this exemption does not apply if these specific producers intend to sell their grapes for distillation purposes.

Failure to submit the declaration within the stipulated timeframe will result in penalties, specifically in the form of a monetary fine. This underscores the importance of timely and accurate reporting for compliance with agricultural regulations.
