Grasshopper scare in Istanbul districts

Istanbul residents are experiencing unease due to the recent appearance of large grasshoppers in several districts. The insects have been observed entering homes and businesses through open windows, especially in the evenings, leading to widespread concern and numerous social media posts.

One resident, Erdal Sayan from Arnavutköy, described his wife's alarm upon seeing several large grasshoppers on their balcony. He noted that these insects are larger than those typically seen in rural areas and have become a frequent sight in commercial areas. "My children and wife are very scared," Sayan said, explaining his efforts to keep windows closed. He believes current pest control measures are insufficient, suggesting that increased spraying could prevent such occurrences.

The insects have been seen resting motionless on windows and walls. One video circulating online shows a person keeping a grasshopper in a jar and feeding it lettuce. The origin of the grasshoppers remains unknown, but residents like Sayan are calling for more effective pest control to alleviate their concerns.

I think the pest control is insufficient. If it were sufficient, maybe we wouldn't be in this situation, maybe they wouldn't have come at all. I don't know where they came from, but I think pest control needs to be increased.
