Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has written an emotional tribute to his son, Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, as Hamdan prepares to mark 20 years as chairman of Dubai’s Executive Council.

The Dubai ruler said he felt deep pride in his son’s journey, leadership and achievements. He praised Hamdan’s bond with the people of Dubai and the affection they hold for him, highlighting his compassion, humility, courage and commitment to understanding people’s needs.

Sheikh Mohammed described Hamdan as “a great and generous man” who cares deeply about humanity, embraces good deeds and readily accepts acts of honour and generosity. He also praised Hamdan’s relationship with his brothers, saying he supports, inspires, empowers and encourages them to serve the people. He called him “an example of a great father, a responsible son, and a loving and generous brother.”

The letter also framed Hamdan’s growing success as a growing burden of responsibility. Sheikh Mohammed said those responsibilities include the nation, its young people and soldiers, the protection of its borders, Dubai’s economy and competitiveness, and the emirate’s rising global position. He said millions around the world follow Hamdan’s work, draw inspiration from him and trust his judgment.

Drawing on nearly six decades in governance and public affairs, Sheikh Mohammed urged his son to listen before ruling, show compassion before punishment, give before being asked and reach out before people are forced to seek help. He said justice must remain central to governance, warning that injustice can erode achievements and set entire civilisations back.
