Greece braces for continued summer weather with high temperatures and potential showers

Greece will largely enjoy summer weather on Monday, with extensive sunshine expected across the Ionian, mainland, and Aegean regions. However, the afternoon, between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., may bring thermal instability.

This instability could lead to temporary clouds and short-lived showers, primarily in mountainous areas of Epirus, western and northern Thessaly, and parts of western, central, and eastern Macedonia. These phenomena are anticipated to be mild.

Temperatures are set to remain high, potentially reaching 35-36 degrees Celsius in lowland and heat-sensitive continental areas. Some locations, such as Agrinio and western Stereá, could see temperatures climb to 37 degrees. The Ionian Islands will experience highs of 34-35 degrees, while eastern continental areas and the Aegean will be slightly cooler, between 29-34 degrees.

Southern Crete will see temperatures up to 34 degrees, influenced by strong Meltemi winds in the Aegean, which will blow at 6-7 Beaufort. In Attica, the weather will be generally good with sunshine, temperatures ranging from 23 to 34 degrees, and winds from 3 to 5 Beaufort, locally up to 6 in the Saronic Gulf. Thessaloniki will have sparse clouds and sunny intervals, with a possibility of light showers in eastern mountainous areas, and temperatures between 22 and 32 degrees.

Looking ahead, meteorologist Giannis Kallianos predicts no significant weather changes for the coming days, with summer conditions persisting. Tuesday will see afternoon showers or local storms in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of Epirus, Thessaly, and Macedonia, with temperatures reaching 36 degrees inland. Wednesday might bring more intense rain and storms to central-northern and northwestern continental regions, with a slight temperature drop in the north. Meteorologists are warning of increased fire risk due to high temperatures and strong winds.
