Greece: Evacuation alert issued for Paramythia as two fires rage in Thesprotia

Two significant fires erupted in Thesprotia, Greece, on Saturday afternoon, triggering an emergency alert and evacuation orders for residents in the wider Paramythia region.

The emergency service 112 issued a warning for a forest fire in the Galatas area of Thesprotia, urging people in the vicinity to evacuate towards Karioti and follow authorities' instructions. This fire front is concentrated near the settlement of Kampo in Ano Paramithia, where the main firefighting efforts are focused.

A second fire, which broke out in Kato Paramithia, was initially reported to be under control. However, firefighting forces remain on high alert for potential flare-ups, as strong winds are complicating the containment operations. The Fire Service reported that 25 firefighters, a ground unit, and seven vehicles were deployed, supported by two firefighting aircraft. The response has been described as immediate and coordinated, aiming to limit the fire's spread before it escalates.
