Greece Faces Four-Day Heatwave: Temperatures to Reach 42°C

Greece is preparing for a significant heatwave, with temperatures predicted to soar as high as 42°C (107.6°F) from Sunday through Wednesday. This marks the first major heat event of the summer season. Meteorologists anticipate the peak of the heatwave will occur on Monday and Tuesday, bringing the most intense conditions across the country.

Specific regions are expected to experience extreme heat. Central Macedonia could see temperatures reach 40°C, while Thessaly, Central and Western Greece, and parts of the eastern and southern Peloponnese may experience highs of 42°C. In contrast, the Attica region, including Athens, is expected to have slightly milder conditions, with temperatures rising over the weekend and peaking on Wednesday before the heat begins to subside.

Fortunately, things will be better in Attica compared to other regions of the country. The temperature will start to rise on Saturday, and we will feel more heat on Sunday and Monday. The temperature will peak in Attica on Wednesday, because on Tuesday, the last day of the heatwave in most parts of the country, there will be more coolness in the west and north. The heat will remain on Wednesday and will leave on Thursday.

Following this intense period of heat, a notable shift in weather patterns is anticipated. Forecasters predict a substantial drop in temperatures, potentially by 8-10°C in many areas, accompanied by localized rainfall. This change is expected to bring much-needed relief after the scorching temperatures, creating a dramatic contrast in weather conditions.
