Greece Hit by First Heatwave of the Year

Greece is bracing for its first significant heatwave of the year, with temperatures set to soar across several regions. This comes after the country largely escaped the record-breaking heat that affected much of Europe in June.

Meteorologist Theodoros Kolydas announced on Facebook that maximum temperatures in Thessaly, the Peloponnese, and the greater Athens area are projected to hover around or surpass 40 degrees Celsius. This intense heat is expected to persist for several days.

The forecast indicates a potential cooling trend beginning on Thursday, offering some relief from the extreme conditions. Authorities are advising residents to take precautions against the heat, including staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours.

This heatwave serves as a reminder of the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, even in regions that may have initially seemed less affected.
