Greece U18 Women Lose Thriller to Iceland in EuroBasket

The Greek U18 women's national basketball team experienced a heartbreaking 78-77 defeat against Iceland, concluding their EuroBasket U18 Division B campaign in sixth place. The tournament took place in Tulcea, Romania.

Iceland controlled the early stages, ending the first quarter with a four-point lead and extending their advantage to seven points later. However, Greece, led by Zorbala and Tsianaka with crucial support from Toumpaniari and Kabaka, managed to turn the game around, heading into halftime with a slim 42-41 lead.

In the third quarter, Iceland regained momentum, building a significant lead that reached 12 points, 73-61, early in the final period. Facing a seemingly insurmountable deficit, the Greek team staged a remarkable comeback. An impressive 16-0 run in just a few minutes put Greece ahead 77-73 with only 65 seconds remaining.

Despite Greece's surge, Iceland had the final say. Lognatottir hit a three-pointer with 14.3 seconds left, narrowing the gap to one point. She then scored the game-winning layup with 1.4 seconds on the clock, sealing the 78-77 victory. Greece was unable to convert on their final possession, settling for sixth place.

Zorbala led Greece with 15 points, followed by Tsianaka with 13 and Toumpaniari with 12, in a game decided in the very last moments.
