Greek Court Issues Landmark Ruling Protecting Workers' Mental and Physical Health

The General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) is highlighting a significant court victory that protects the mental and physical health of employees subjected to workplace bullying and intense pressure.

The Monomeles Protodikeio of Florina ruled in favor of an employee whose health had suffered after years of work exhaustion and excessive demands from management to achieve high targets. The court acknowledged that the employee experienced intense administrative pressure, often working beyond regular hours and performing the work of three people. These conditions, combined with persistent bullying, led to a serious decline in her health.

GSEE emphasizes that this judicial decision sets a precedent for labor rights, recognizing the direct link between working conditions and an employee's physical and mental well-being. The confederation stated that unions can now use this ruling in similar cases where work-related stress and burnout not only violate basic rights but also compromise employee safety.

The confederation is calling on its member organizations to remain vigilant, noting an increase in workplace problems as indicated by research from the INE-GSEE. GSEE, along with its federations and labor centers, pledges to continue its efforts to ensure decent working conditions for all employees.
