Greek musician Giorgos Lagogiannis dies at 47

The Greek music community mourns the loss of Giorgos Lagogiannis, a celebrated keyboardist who passed away at 47. Lagogiannis succumbed to a serious illness after a recent struggle.

Recognized as one of the most accomplished keyboardists of his generation, Lagogiannis was particularly noted for his role in a musical project dedicated to recreating the music of The Beatles. This endeavor highlighted his deep love and romantic approach to music.

Born in Athens in 1977, Lagogiannis began his musical journey with classical piano studies and advanced music theory. He later specialized in keyboards, developing a distinctive personal style that earned him recognition on the music scene. From a young age, he actively participated in the music industry, performing with Greek and international rock and blues bands, and touring both within Greece and abroad.

His bandmates shared a heartfelt tribute, expressing gratitude for his contributions, knowledge, and passion for The Beatles' music. They emphasized that the band would not have existed without him. They lamented the irreplaceable void left by his talent, unique "ear" for music, and his skill on both keyboards and vocals, noting his impact extended beyond their tribute band to the broader Athens music scene. His humor and kindness were also highlighted as defining characteristics.

Lagogiannis will be laid to rest in Ritsona on Thursday, July 16, at 13:30.
