Greek sprinters Emmanouilidou and Spanoudaki out of 100m semifinals

Greek sprinters Polyniki Emmanouilidou and Rafaela Spanoudaki have been eliminated from the women's 100-meter event at the European Championships. Emmanouilidou narrowly missed advancing to the semifinals, finishing just three-thousandths of a second behind a qualifying spot.

Emmanouilidou ran a strong race in her heat, finishing fourth with a time of 11.31 seconds in windless conditions. She held a strong position for the first 80 meters but lost ground in the final stretch. While 12 athletes advanced directly to the semifinals based on season's bests, another 12 qualified through heats. Emmanouilidou placed ninth overall after the first two heats, but a faster time in the third heat pushed her out.

Spanoudaki finished seventh in her heat with a time of 11.42 seconds, placing 17th overall. Emmanouilidou finished 13th. Despite their disappointment in the 100m, both athletes have further opportunities to compete in the championships.

They are scheduled to participate in the 200-meter race and the 4x100-meter relay, offering them chances to redeem their performances and contribute to the Greek team.
