Greek Universities Keele and York Receive New Operating Licenses After Supreme Court Rulings

Greek universities Keele and York have secured new operating licenses in Greece, just days after the Council of State annulled their previous permits. The Ministry of Education has undertaken a new administrative procedure to align with the Supreme Court's rulings.

The decision, signed by Deputy Minister of Education, Religious Affairs, and Sports Nikos Papaiōannou, reissued installation and operating licenses for the two non-state universities. They will operate as branches under a University Education Legal Entity (NPPΕ).

This development comes after the Supreme Court's decisions, which had invalidated the licenses and study programs for three non-state universities due to identified legal issues. The annulled decisions specifically affected CITY College – University of York, Keele University, and Anatolia College.

Legal sources had previously indicated that the annulments did not necessarily signify a definitive end for these institutions. They suggested that if the administration and the universities took the necessary steps to rectify the legal problems, the situation could be re-evaluated. The Ministry's swift action demonstrates a commitment to resolving these legal challenges and ensuring compliance with the highest judicial body.
