Greeks Lament: Summer Holidays in Their Own Country Are Becoming Unaffordable

Summer holidays in Greece, a cherished tradition for generations, are rapidly becoming a luxury few locals can afford, according to a report by Bloomberg. Vera Kalogera, a 35-year-old mother from Athens, recalls a childhood filled with annual trips to the Greek islands with her parents. These vacations, spent with other families by the Aegean or Ionian seas, were once an integral part of Greek family life.

However, Kalogera now finds herself unable to afford such trips. Even shorter getaways to the popular Greek holiday destinations are beyond her reach. She notes that the situation has deteriorated significantly compared to previous years, making it difficult for Greeks to enjoy a vacation in their own country.

The rising cost of living and the increasing demand from international tourists have driven up prices for accommodation, food, and transportation, particularly in sought-after coastal and island locations.
