Green Day Stages Surprise Ice Cream Truck Concert at San Diego Comic-Con

American rock band Green Day delivered a surprise performance from atop an ice cream truck at Gallagher Square, near Petco Park, on Friday, July 24, 2026, as part of San Diego Comic-Con. The unconventional setup served as a unique promotional event for their forthcoming biopic, titled 'Nimrods.'

Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong kicked off the impromptu concert by performing the band's hit song 'Basket Case' from the truck's roof. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Armstrong also tossed ice cream, t-shirts, and cassettes to the enthusiastic crowd gathered below. Bandmates Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool later joined him on the truck to distribute ice cream to fans.

The promotional stunt is tied to the release of 'Nimrods,' a comedy film set during the band's early tours. The movie, directed by Lee Kirk and starring Mason Thames, is scheduled to premiere in the United States on August 14, 2026. Actress Jenna Fischer, known for her role in 'The Office,' also has a part in the film.

Actors Mason Thames and Jenna Fischer were present at the event, joining the band on stage during their musical performance. San Diego Comic-Con also saw appearances from other notable figures, including actors Johnny Depp and Rick Moranis, and filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, making it a star-studded convention.
