Greenpeace: Russian shadow fleet tankers navigated Bulgarian waters

Greenpeace Bulgaria has revealed that at least 14 tankers belonging to Russia's "shadow fleet" navigated Bulgarian and Romanian waters between January 1 and August 1. This finding comes from a new analysis of the fleet's movements in the Black Sea conducted by the environmental organization's Bulgarian branch.

The shadow fleet, comprised of older vessels often operating under flags of convenience and with opaque ownership, is frequently used to transport Russian oil, circumventing international sanctions. Their presence in the Black Sea raises significant concerns regarding maritime safety and potential environmental hazards.

Greenpeace's analysis tracks the movements of these vessels, shedding light on their operational patterns within the region. The organization's findings underscore the ongoing challenges in monitoring and regulating such fleets, which pose risks to marine ecosystems and regional stability.
