Greens demand gas summit over low storage levels

The Green Party is demanding a gas summit, citing critically low storage levels as a failure of the federal government's energy policy. Michael Kellner, the energy policy spokesperson for the Green Party in the Bundestag, stated that the government is "not doing its homework." He warned that "empty storage tanks put us in a dangerous dependence on American liquefied natural gas (LNG)," adding that being dependent on U.S. President Donald Trump is "not a good idea."

Kellner asserted that the federal government's hesitant policy is harming Germany and Europe. Current gas storage levels stand at approximately 50% capacity, a significant drop from 67% at the same time last year. This year, the war in Iran made it difficult for gas traders to purchase affordable reserves during the summer. Many companies are now hesitant to buy due to increased energy prices.
