GS Caltex honorary chairman Hur Dong-soo and others donate 100 million won to support junior golfers

One day before the opening of the 72nd Heo Jeong-gu Korea Amateur Golf Championship, three business leaders donated 100 million won to help develop junior golfers.

Hur Dong-soo, honorary chairman of GS Caltex, Hur Kwang-soo, chairman of Samyang International, and Hur Joon-hong, vice chairman of SYTS, delivered the donation to the Korea Golf Association on the 7th.

The Heo Jeong-gu is described as Korea’s longest-running national-title golf tournament across both amateur and professional competition. It has produced many star players and is known as a cradle of Korean golf.

Founded in 1954, the event is being held for the 72nd time this year. Since 2003, it has carried the name of the late Hur Jeong-gu, honorary chairman of SYTS and Samyang International. Hur was Korea’s first Royal and Ancient Golf Club member, served as the sixth through eighth president of the Korea Golf Association, and became the first president of the Korea Professional Golfers’ Association.

This year’s tournament will take place from September 8 to 11 at Namseoul Country Club in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.
