Korea University launches staff fundraising campaign to help Nepal flood recovery

Korea University is turning to its entire faculty and staff to help Nepal recover from devastating floods, with a fundraising campaign running from Sept. 7 to 16.

The campaign is open to full-time faculty, including those at the College of Medicine, and all employees at the university’s Seoul and Sejong campuses. Donations will be consolidated under the name Korea University and delivered through the Korean Red Cross, which is conducting its own campaign for victims of the flooding.

The university said the appeal was organized to support Nepalese people who lost their homes and livelihoods after record heavy rain and flooding in August caused deaths and property damage. It has been promoting the drive through emails and text messages to staff, as well as through its website and official social media channels.

We hope the hearts of Korea University members reach the people of Nepal, who are in deep sorrow after the sudden disaster, and provide a small measure of comfort and help speed recovery.

Korea University said it has organized similar staff fundraising efforts after disasters in South Korea and abroad, including Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines in 2013, the Sewol ferry disaster in 2014, earthquakes in Japan and Ecuador in 2016, the Pohang earthquake in 2017, and wildfires in Gyeongbuk and Gangwon in 2022.
