Guan Yu's Birthday: Miaoli's Yu Ching Temple Donates NT$5 Million to Support Vulnerable Families and Long-Term Care

On the occasion of the birthday of Guan Shengdi, the revered Chinese deity of war, loyalty, and righteousness, Miaoli's Yu Ching Temple has once again demonstrated its commitment to community welfare by donating NT$5 million to the Miaoli County Government. This significant contribution, made on the 24th day of the lunar month, will bolster services for disadvantaged families and enhance long-term care resources within the region.

This latest donation brings the temple's cumulative support for the Miaoli County Government to NT$20 million. County Magistrate Chung Tung-chin expressed his gratitude, highlighting the temple's long-standing dedication to public service and its role in ensuring that charitable resources are utilized effectively to aid those in need. Yu Ching Temple Chairman Wei Chun-chieh stated that the temple, as a significant center for Guan Di worship in Miaoli, upholds the deity's spirit of aiding the distressed and helping the needy. The timing of the donation on Guan Di's birthday is intended to inspire further generosity within the community.

The funds will be strategically distributed to maximize their impact. The County Government's Department of Long-Term Care will receive NT$2 million to help low-income elderly individuals cover costs associated with residing in care facilities, including nursing, transportation, and necessary equipment. The remaining NT$3 million will be managed by the Department of Social Affairs to provide immediate assistance to families experiencing sudden crises or severe financial difficulties.

Yu Ching Temple has a history of substantial contributions to the local community, including donations of rice, daily necessities, fire communication equipment, ambulances, and accessible transport vehicles. Magistrate Chung emphasized that this NT$5 million donation, following previous contributions in 2022, 2024, and 2025, underscores the deep-seated generosity of religious organizations in giving back to society. The temple's actions are seen as a vital supplement to government welfare programs, enhancing social services and long-term care capacity in Miaoli.
