Guarayos producers march against fuel scarcity, demand repeal of DS 5676

Producers in Guarayos province, Bolivia, took to the streets on Sunday to protest severe fuel shortages, demanding the government repeal Supreme Decree 5676. Over fifty rice and peasant farmers marched to a YPFB fuel station, expressing their grievances over the scarcity of diesel.

The demonstrators condemned the fuel shortage and its detrimental effects on agricultural production. They specifically called for the government of Rodrigo Paz to annul the decree, which they described as "harmful" to producers. "We will take control of this fuel station because corruption starts here," declared Javier Núñez, a leader of the United Central Workers Federation of Peasants. He added, "We also condemn this decree because it condemns us to die of hunger; we prefer to die fighting."

Núñez warned that if Supreme Decree 5676 is not abrogated, the protesters will escalate their actions. Ramiro Pérez, president of the Federation of Rice Producers, echoed these concerns, stating that the sector will be unable to supply rice to the population due to the lack of fuel. He condemned the rise in diesel prices to 18 Bolivianos.

The protest highlights the critical impact of fuel scarcity on Bolivia's agricultural sector and the growing discontent among producers facing economic challenges.
