Guerrero mining creates over 31,500 jobs, governor reports

Mining in Mexico's Guerrero state is a significant economic driver, creating more than 31,500 direct and indirect jobs and generating an annual economic impact exceeding 13 billion pesos. The sector contributes approximately 4.8% to the state's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), according to Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda.

Salgado Pineda made these remarks while inaugurating the Guerrero Mining Forum 2026, where she described the industry as crucial for the state's development. She emphasized a vision for "modern, responsible mining committed to shared well-being," one that generates economic value, attracts investment, and strengthens social development in local communities.

The governor highlighted mining as Guerrero's second-most relevant economic force, fostering regional development, specialized employment, and competitive supply chains. Guerrero holds a "privileged" position within Mexico's mining sector, ranking third in gold production.

Industry representatives echoed the governor's positive outlook. Faysal Rodríguez Valenzuela, vice president of Torex Gold/Minera Media Luna, stated that Guerrero's certainty and stability are fundamental factors for continued and expanded investments. Rafael Rebollar González, director of Industrias Peñoles, added that the forum reflects a shared vision for economic development through responsible and competitive mining practices that benefit communities.
