Güler: 'We are monitoring Greece's activities that violate our interests'

Turkey is closely observing Greece's actions, which Ankara claims infringe upon its rights and interests, according to Defense Minister Yaşar Güler. His remarks came in response to a Turkish newspaper report suggesting Greece is exploring the enhancement of its air defense capabilities on Aegean islands situated near Turkey's coast, potentially using Israeli systems. "All activities of Greece that violate Turkey's rights and interests and contradict international law are being monitored," Güler stated when asked about the report. He affirmed that Turkey is taking the necessary measures to address the situation, though he refrained from elaborating on the specifics. In a written response to Turkish lawmakers dated August 10 and released on Friday, the defense minister also addressed the military cooperation between Greece and Israel. Güler asserted that in the current "multipolar security environment," characterized by heightened global and regional uncertainty, Turkey is closely watching the military activities undertaken by both Greece and Israel. The Turkish minister's statement follows the publication by the newspaper Türkiye, which reported that the issue of bolstering air defense on Greek Aegean islands had been raised in the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
