Gulf Green Mobility Lab Examines Sustainable Transport Systems in Salalah

Electric-vehicle charging networks and green hydrogen for heavy transport took center stage at the Gulf Green Mobility System Lab held in Salalah. The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology organized the session as part of the Gulf Green Mobility Forum 2026.

Participants examined legislation governing charging stations, including operating and management models for station providers. They also discussed how charging infrastructure could connect with smart grids, manage electricity loads and attract private-sector investment. Licensing obstacles and the supporting infrastructure needed for electric mobility were part of the discussion, along with the role of governments in creating workable regulations.

A second theme focused on green hydrogen as a way to cut emissions from trucks and buses. The lab considered whether logistics infrastructure is ready for hydrogen technologies and reviewed supply-chain models for ports and industrial zones. Participants also discussed policies and incentives that could increase demand for hydrogen in transport.

The session is expected to contribute to a roadmap addressing regulatory and technical gaps in electric-mobility infrastructure. It will also develop recommendations for emerging green-mobility markets and an initial framework linking electric charging systems with hydrogen solutions for heavy transport. The organizers described the lab as a forum for GCC cooperation, knowledge exchange and practical planning for an integrated regional green-mobility system.
