Gun attack near El Trébol and El Guarda snarls traffic on Guatemala City’s Roosevelt Causeway

An armed incident near El Trébol and the El Guarda market has turned traffic on Guatemala City’s Roosevelt Causeway into a moving bottleneck. The incident occurred near Sixth Avenue in Zone 7, where authorities were gathering evidence.

The Municipal Traffic Police said they could not yet rule out that the attack happened elsewhere. That uncertainty could lead to two separate road closures. Officials have opened a reversible lane from the capital toward Mixco, but warned motorists to expect additional complications.

Amílcar Montejo, a spokesperson for the traffic police, urged drivers to take precautions and follow directions from officers managing the flow of vehicles.

Traffic was also affected by a collision involving a motorcyclist and a car on 30th Avenue of San Juan Causeway. Municipal firefighters were treating those involved while traffic officers worked to keep vehicles moving. At El Naranjo bridge, toward the Peripheral Ring Road, motorcyclists stopped a vehicle allegedly involved in a traffic incident after it tried to flee. The right lane remained blocked while the National Civil Police carried out procedures at the scene.
