Gunmen abduct Osun LG vice chairman

The Vice Chairman of Ifedayo Local Government Area in Osun State, Mr Debo Farounbi, was abducted by gunmen in Ora, a community on the Osun/Kwara border. The attack occurred around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, with the assailants reportedly shooting into the air to cause panic before targeting their victims.

Four people, two Fulani women and two men including the Ifedayo Local Government Vice Chairman, Debo Farounbi were abducted. But the resistance put up by the military made the perpetrators to abandon three people.

During the incident, military personnel and local volunteers stationed in the town offered strong resistance. This resistance forced the perpetrators to abandon three of the four people they had abducted. However, after a heavy gunfight, the gunmen managed to escape with Mr. Farounbi.

One person was abducted. He is a local government Vice Chairman, Hon Debo Farounbi. Immediately the incident happened, the military, police and others responded. Efforts are in place to rescue the man.

Residents expressed fear and concern over the recurring abductions. This is the third such incident in Ora within the last seven months. In December 2025, a retired Customs officer was abducted and later released after ransom payment. In February, two other residents were abducted and held for about four weeks before their release. Community leaders are urging for a stronger security presence to prevent further invasions and deter residents from fleeing the town.
