Gunmen ambush, kill two farmers in Plateau State

Two farmers have been killed in separate incidents in Takkas community, Fier Ward, Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State, following ambushes by suspected gunmen. The attacks, which occurred on Sunday and Monday, have intensified fears among residents, particularly as they coincide with the peak of the farming season.

The victims were reportedly attacked while working on their farms. The member representing Pankshin North Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dewan Gabriel, confirmed the tragic events. He stated that one farmer was killed on Sunday, and a second was murdered on Monday evening. The lawmaker added that the attackers ambushed the farmers on their respective farms.

One person was killed yesterday and another today. They were ambushed on their farms. One corpse is at the General Hospital, Pankshin, while the other has been taken to a Christian hospital.

Many residents are expressing deep-seated fears about returning to their farms, given the ongoing threat posed by the gunmen.

Condemning the attacks as "barbaric, senseless and unacceptable," Gabriel extended his sympathies to the bereaved families, the Takkas community, and the entire Fier Ward. He implored security agencies to intensify their efforts to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible for the violence. Gabriel stressed that the residents of the area deserve to live in peace and security. He pledged to collaborate with security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure a thorough investigation and prevent future occurrences. The lawmaker also appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with authorities by providing any useful information.
