Gunmen kill female farmer, injure another in fresh Plateau attack

A woman was killed and another injured when suspected armed bandits attacked farmers in Rinyan village, Tahoss community, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria. The tragic incident occurred around 3:50 p.m. on Saturday while the victims were tending to their farm.

The deceased has been identified as Mrs. Hudung Luka, 40, who was reportedly shot dead by the attackers. The second victim, Mrs. Ladi Istifanus, 50, sustained gunshot wounds and was immediately taken to a medical facility for treatment. Local sources confirmed the attack, stating that the assailants stormed the farm and fired at the women before escaping.

This attack is described as another in a continuing wave of violence targeting farming communities in the Riyom Local Government Area. Bulus Rop, a community member, confirmed the incident and called for intensified efforts from security agencies to protect rural populations and bring the perpetrators to justice. Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, also condemned the senseless killing and urged both Plateau State and Federal Governments to bolster security in vulnerable areas. Efforts to get a statement from the Plateau State Police Command spokesperson were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
